Applications are invited for the post of the Director of the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology (IPPP) for a five year term combined with the post of Professor of Physics in Durham. The successful applicant will lead the IPPP as Director for a five year term. They will have the ability to maintain and enhance the IPPP’s outstanding reputation as a leading research institute in particle physics both nationally and internationally, and will be an internationally recognized expert in particle physics phenomenology. The 2014 Stirling Lecture will be held on Thursday 4th December at 17:30, in the Applebey Lecture Theatre (W103). The lecture entitled “Life on the Edge: the coming of age of quantum biology” will be given by Jim Al-Khalili, Professor of Theoretical Physics and Chair in the Public Engagement in Science at the University of Surrey. Professor Al-Khalili, OBE, is an Iraqi-born British theoretical physicist, author and broadcaster. He has hosted several BBC productions about science and is a frequent commentator about science in other British media.
