The High Energy Physics Group at Imperial College London invites applications for a permanent teaching appointment at Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level in High Energy Physics.

The Imperial High Energy group is one of the largest in the UK, with a broadly based experimental programme embracing the CMS & LHCb experiments at the CERN LHC, active programmes with D0 at Fermilab and Babar at SLAC and a neutrino programme involving the T2K experiment in Japan and preparations for the SuperNEMO neutrinoless double beta decay experiment. Detector developments involve high granularity calorimetry for a linear collider detector with the CALICE collaboration and upgrades foreseen for the CMS tracking and triggering systems to take advantage of a future super-LHC with an order of magnitude higher than design LHC-luminosity. The group has a substantial programme in accelerator science, primarily directed towards a neutrino factory and muon collider. This includes a major participation in the MICE experiment at the Rutherford laboratory. Active participation in the GridPP collaboration will ensure the necessary e-science infrastructure is in place when data taking at the LHC commences. You will join the Imperial College CMS team and, in particular, strengthen the analysis effort to ensure that the group plays a leading role in extracting the first LHC physics. You will have a Ph D in experimental particle physics and proven expertise in extracting and publishing physics results from a large particle physics experiment. Previous experience leading an analysis team would be advantageous as would an appreciation of the sub-detector technologies in use with CMS. You will be based on the Imperial College South Kensington site and will teach at both undergraduate and postgraduate level in the Imperial College Physics Department.

A starting date of 1st January 2008 is anticipated but this is subject to negotiation. Salary will be in the range £38,880 to £43,420 for Lecturer level and will be a minimum of £47,960 at Senior Lecturer level.
