Description:

The High Energy Physics Group at Imperial College London invites applications for a permanent academic appointment in Accelerator Physics at Lecturer or Reader level. You will join the team that is currently pursuing a Neutrino Factory R&D programme. The Group has a strong activity in accelerator-based neutrino physics, including participation in the T2K super-beam experiment and the development of a future high-intensity neutrino source. The latter is in collaboration with the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory on a high power proton driver and the study of ionisation cooling with the MICE experiment. The appointee will be expected to lead a project to advance the development of high-intensity neutrino beams at future high-power neutron-spallation source in close collaboration with the ISIS Accelerator Division at RAL. It is anticipated your time will be divided roughly equally between Imperial College London and the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory (based in Oxfordshire). The post will include teaching duties for both undergraduate and postgraduate students at Imperial College. Educated to PhD level or equivalent experience, the post-holder should have a proven track record in accelerator science. An exceptional candidate with a proven track record in experimental particle physics but also with a clear commitment to, and aptitude for, the development of a capability in accelerator science will also be considered. For an appointment at Reader level previous leadership of a project at a major accelerator centre will be expected.
