Description:

Postdoctoral Research Assistant - T2K and Hyper Kamiokande Experiments

Particle Physics, Denys Wilkinson Building, Keble Road, Oxford, OX1 3RH

Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Particle Physics.

The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 3 years, with the possibility of extension.

The holder of this post will work on the T2K, Hyper Kamiokande, and potentially the Super Kamiokande experiments. T2K and Super Kamiokande between them give world-leading sensitivity across a broad range of physics topics, with particular interest in Oxford focussed on long-baseline oscillations, atmospheric neutrinos, and relic supernova neutrinos. Hyper Kamiokande will extend and improve on these measurements, providing unbeatable physics opportunities for more than a decade to come.

The post holder will work with the other members of the Oxford group, the RAL group, and other UK and international groups to support the T2K near detector DAQ and online monitoring systems and providing operational support at the near detector in Tokai. She/he will also take a lead role in the analysis efforts of the group. The post holder may also participate in SK operations/analysis and will be expected to play a growing role in preparation for operations at Hyper Kamiokande.

Applicants should hold, or be close to completion of, a PhD/DPhil in physics or a related field and ideally a strong background in particle physics.

Previous experience in the field of neutrino physics, especially long-baseline oscillation measurements, will be an advantage.

Candidates are expected to demonstrate strong research skills and the ability work both independently and within a team. Willingness to travel to Japan for detector maintenance and operations is a must.

The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.

Only applications received promptly by 12:00 noon UK time on 12 August 2022 can be considered. Please read the “Person Specification and Job Description” before preparing your application. You will be required to upload a Curriculum Vita, a description of research experience and interests and the names and addresses of three referees as part of your online application. In addition you should arrange for the three letters of reference to be sent to sue.geddes@physics.ox.ac.uk by the closing date. Applications are acknowledged but not reference letters.
