Description:
This conference brings together researchers working on semi-local aspects of quantum field theory, including topics such as asymptotic or boundary features of field theories, relational observables and quantum reference frames, as well as relativistic quantum information and quantum measurement theory. The conference is immediately followed by a 1 day meeting of the Algebraic Quantum Field Theory UK network on 3 July 2026 which may be of interest to many participants.
A focus on local aspects of quantum fields has led to important progress, such as the rigorous perturbative construction of quantized gauge theories and measurement theory for QFT. In recent years there has been an increased focus on structures in QFT that go beyond local features, including relational observables and asymptotic/boundary structures in QFT. These efforts are providing key insights into information theoretic aspects of quantum fields and quantum gravity. We are therefore challenged with incorporating these structures into a rigorous framework for quantum fields, dubbed semi-local quantum physics.
This conference provides an opportunity to present and discuss these developments, which may serve to lay foundations for a framework of semi-local quantum physics. We invite all researchers working on or interested in these topics to attend and apply to present their work.
