Newcastle Airport has regular flights to and from Alicante, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Cologne-Bonn, Copenhagen, Dublin, Dusseldorf, Geneva, Hanover, Malaga, Milan, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Rome and Stavanger as well as from London and other UK cities.

Newcastle Airport is situated approximately 8 miles north west of Newcastle City Centre. To get from Newcastle airport to Durham by public transport use the Metro which takes you to Newcastle Central Station for about 2.40 GBP (trains operate every 20 minutes) and then connect with the mainline train to Durham.

By plane

Durham Tees Valley Airport has regular flights to and from Alicante, Amsterdam, Dublin, Malaga, Paris, Rome and London.

The railway station at Darlington located approximately 7 miles east of Durham Tees Valley Airport is a short bus or taxi ride. Sky Express bus service is available free for air passengers.

Trains to Durham cost about 3.60 GBP and operate frequently. Timetable information is available from Railtrack

Taxis from the airport to Durham are available directly outside the terminal building and cost about 30 GBP.

By ship

There are ferry connection from Newcastle to Amsterdam, Bergen, Haugesund, Gothenburg, Kristiansand and Stavanger during summer. The crossing takes about 24hrs. Contact DFDS Scandinavian Seaways and Fjord Line.

The ferries arrive at the International Ferry Terminal, Royal Quays, North Shields which is situated approximately 8 miles east of Newcastle City Centre. There is a bus service to Newcastle Central Station costing about 4.0 GBP.

By Car

Durham is about 30 min. by car south of Newcastle upon Tyne. Find the A1 and leave it at exit Durham.

By Bus

There are bus connections to Durham or Newcastle from most major cities in England.

By Rail

The Intercity East-Coast line links Durham with London King's Cross and Edinburgh. Most Intercity trains stop in Durham.

Otherwise go to Newcastle Central Station and take a local train to Durham (one-way costs 4.30 GBP) or taxi (about 35 GBP).
