Postdoctoral Research Assistant AIDAInnova Particle Physics, Denys Wilkinson Building, Keble Road, Oxford, OX1 3RH. Grade 8: £41,526 - £49,553 per annum Applications are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Particle Physics.
The post is available initially for a fixed-term duration of 3 years and may be extended by one year dependent on funding.
This project is part of the AIDAinnova programme and aims to further develop and apply existing interferometric techniques and other instrumentation for the characterisation of ultra-light support structures in particle physics experiments.
The successful candidate will develop novel high-precision interferometric distance and displacement sensing instrumentation and apply these new technologies to the development of ultra-light support structures for future particle physics experiments. The group collaborates with our industrial partners to increase the impact of our research and commercialise the arising technologies.
Applicants should hold, or be close to completion of a PhD in physics, mechanical engineering, or in a related field and ideally have a strong background in interferometric distance measurements and/or particle physics instrumentation and/or design and characterization of composite mechanical structures.
Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to plan, design, construct and exploit R&D projects while refining their outline-specifications within an adequate time frame. High proficiency in accurate and concise communication with team members, collaborators and the scientific community through written and spoken English is mandatory.
The post-holder will have the opportunity to teach.
We would also consider underfilling this post at Grade 7: £32,817 - £40,322 per annum depending on qualifications and experience.
Informal enquiries about this post may be made to: Prof Armin Reichold, firstname.lastname@example.org or Prof Georg Viehhauser, email@example.com.
