Job Description:

Applications are sought for two postdoctoral Research Associates in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics to work in the field of high energy physics, to start on 1 October 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful applicants will join the PBSP (Physics Beyond the Standard Proton) team of Maria Ubiali, whose goal is to devise a new robust statistical framework to fit model-independent parametrization of new physics and to constrain them simultaneously with the structure of the proton and other precision parameters of the Standard Model. The team currently involves the PI, four PhD students and one postdoctoral Research Associate.

Duties include developing and conducting individual and collaborative research objectives, proposals and projects. The role holder will be expected to plan and manage their own research and administration, with guidance if required, and to assist in the preparation of proposals and applications to external bodies. They must be able to communicate material of a technical nature and be able to build internal and external contacts. They may be asked to assist in the supervision of student projects, the development of student research skills, provide instruction or plan/deliver seminars relating to the research area.

The role holder is expected to have excellent knowledge of theoretical particle physics and experience in particle phenomenology, particularly as far as tools for a phenomenological interpretation of LHC measurements are concerned.
Relevant essential skills and experience include a strong background in Effective Field Theories and BSM phenomenology, a solid understanding of QCD phenomenology, a good statistical background and strong computational skills; the successful candidate will have a PhD in a particle physics theory. Previous relevant research experience is essential.
