IPPP and the Community
Public Outreach Programme
With our colleagues in the Institute for Computational Cosmology (ICC), we have recently established a new Public Outreach programme "From Fundamental Particles to Galaxies and the Universe", funded by a grant from PPARC. The programme is managed by Pete Edwards.
General-interest talks
IPPP members are available for general-interest or more specialised talks on particle physics. In particular, we can provide talks suitable for school sixth-formers taking a particle physics A or AS level module. Contact Pete Edwards for more information.
Masterclass
In recent years we have established an annual masterclass for local schoolchildren, where sixth formers and their teachers receive instruction in the basic aspects of particle physics and have the opportunity to extract and analyse `real' experimental data. The 2012 Masterclass took place in April and attracted more than 200 participants. Contact Trudy Forster for more information about the 2013 Masterclass.
Other lectures
Several times each year the Physics and Mathematical Sciences Departments of the University organise general-interest lectures, open-days and other events open to the public. Resources are available for download.
